Dear reader,
I decided I’m adding my own nonsense to the 500 million blogs that exist out there today, because know what?
I have things to say dang it!
And sometimes you just need a place to put your thoughts that isn’t an Insta post or a phone call to your grandma, even though calling your grandma is one of the sweeter privileges offered in this lifetime.

My name is Savannah. I am a freelance artist & designer, an exultant red-head, a controlling planner, a documentarian-style travel enthusiast, and now (I suppose) a blogging wife in her twenties. I am navigating through adulthood with my husband Scott who I truly, truly, adore. We are loving every minute of our time spent together, unless we are deciding who is going to pick up groceries.
The other day we were sitting on our FRIHTEN from Ikea, looking around our apartment trying to pinpoint which interior design category our home style fit into. It is not poorly decorated by any means, but we quickly decided it didn’t fit any category, as I am expecting is the case with most true homes. It wasn’t boho despite all the woods carvings and ornate rugs. It was too cluttered to be mid-century modern or Scandinavian. But also it was too new and clean to be shabby chic? It was an industrial, art inspired, mostly target bought, multi colored conglomerate of a set up, but you know what? It works. I love our home and all the items in it.

At the end of the day, the one thread linking all the incongruous pieces of our home together, is travel. Outside of our pots and pans, most of our belongings are small pieces collected from places we have been.
For good measure (and so our home could feel a sense belonging and purpose) I created a new term for our style to be organized into:
Global Pastiche.
Inspired by the world. A reflection of what we have seen. A hodgepodge compilation of belongings that honor different places and cultures and memories and trips. Each bit of clutter bringing back certain smells and revelations and conversations and faces that all add to our homey collection. Perfect.

I chose that style to be used as a name for this blog as well, much before I knew what content it would hold, because everything we are excited to share about, is also a pastiche. This word is similar in meaning to a parody, except it doesn’t serve to poke fun or have malintent, rather it is imitation done out of pure awe, inspiration, and flattery. This is a sharing of the lessons learned and inspirations gathered from our travels. (Travels meaning walks down the street, flights to foreign countries, and or road trips to see close friends.)
If you follow along I can promise you four things.
1. There will be bullet points and grammar errors. I am not a writer and sometimes the best way to get your thoughts across is to make a beautifully written list. There will be lots of details cause, oh hunny, I am a planner. And there will be lots and lots of typos because I don’t proofread.
2. I am really pumped you’re with us. It brings me true joy to participate in story sharing. Thank you for giving me that joy by being here. I hope you learn something new and can apply it your life, as I have learned so much from others who have also shared.
3. What you read will be true and authentic. That’s that. If you have thoughts or questions, please ask. I am an open book.
4. There will be shameless plugs to my Instagram and Etsy. That is not a plee for more followers, likes, or sales (… well ok MAYBE for sales), but because they are my hobbies and an extension of who I am and how I communicate.
Looking forward to sharing,
Savannah & Scotty McHotty.
